The A2A Group, first Italian local utility company for revenues and margins and second independent electrical operator for installed capacity and sales volumes, is present primarily in Northern Italy during all stages of both the electrical energy production chain, from production to distribution and sales, and the gas production chain, from purchasing, thanks to shareholdings in Edison and Plurigas, to supplying the end user. In particular, a generation capacity of 3.4 GW is guaranteed by 2.5 GW of thermoelectrical assets, characterized by an efficient production mix, and approximately 0.9 GW of hydroelectrical assets.

A2A also holds a leadership role in district heating, with a capacity of approximately 800 MWt and a distribution network of 710 km, and in environmental services, with 3 million tonnes of treated waste, approximately 1.3 of which is used to produce electricity and heat. Finally, the group operates in the integrated water cycle, from distribution, with a network of 5,000 km, to purification and sewerage services.

The number of customers served is approximately 1.1 million units in the electricity sector, whereas approximately 1.2 million units in the gas sector.

Activities and business model

The A2A Group’s business model provides for the following main production chains:

- Energy:

covers the technical management of the production plants, the purchasing of gas linked to both its subsequent resale on the market and its use in the Group’s thermoelectrical plants, as well as the sale of electricity and activities arising from the electricity wholesale trade, especially on the Power Exchange.

 - District Heating:

covers the heat production activities through co-generation plants and its distribution and sale to end users.

- Waste:

covers the waste collection, treatment and disposal activities primarily through the waste-to-energy cycle for the electricity production.

- Networks:

covers the electricity and gas distribution activities and those linked to the integrated water cycle.
