US shares open higher as market waits on Iran response

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 7 mag - US shares opened higher building on yesterday's gains as investors digested the latest round of earnings and waited on Iran's response to a US proposal for ending hostilities in the Gulf.

CNN reported that Iran was assessing a US proposal it had received and would give its response as soon as today.

Reports yesterday, citing sources briefed on the matter, said Washington had drawn up a 14-point memorandum of understanding to not only end the war but lay the groundwork for more detailed nuclear talks.

Oil prices fell further with Brent dipping below the 100 dollar per barrel mark.

On the stocks front, shares in Whirlpool were down nearly 15% in early trade after the white goods maker nearly halved its earnings outlook and suspended its dividend. Shares in McDonald's rose nearly 1% after solid earnings while DoorDash shares rose more than 4% after the food delivery company gave upbeat guidance.

Just after the opening bell the Dow Jones was up 133.73 points, or 0.27%, at 50,044.32 points, the S&P 500 was up 9.17 points, or 0.12%, at 7,374.29, while the Nasdaq was up.

45.09 points, or 0.17%, at 25,884.03.
