US shares mostly higher buoyed by tech gains, Iran newsflow
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 8 giu - US shares were trading mostly higher boosted by a rebound for tech stocks after Friday's rout and improved newsflow from the Middle East.
A hotter-than-expected jobs report last Friday triggered a run on semiconductor stocks that sent the Nasdaq crashing 4.2%. But tech stocks recovered ground today as Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang suggested the rout could be an opportunity for buying into the AI trade. Chipmakers rose, with Intel and Micron gaining 12.1% and 10.2%, respectively, and Nvidia up 1.7% Renewed fighting between Iran and Israel on Sunday ratcheted up pressure, leaving the US-Iran ceasefire hanging by a thread. But US president Donald Trump said today Israel and Iran were looking to do an immediate ceasefire and final negotiations on 'peace' were proceeding.
Iran then signaled it was ready to call an end to its current military operations against Israel.
WTI oil prices pared earlier gains with crude up 1.77%.
At 1738 GMT, the Dow Jones was losing 78.47 points, or 0.15%, at 50,788.31 points.
The S&P 500 was 46.10 points, or 0.62%, higher at 7,429.84 points.
The Nasdaq was gaining 319.08 points, or 1.24%, at 26,028.51.
