US futures lower as oil rises over US-Iran deadlock
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 23 apr - US futures were lower as efforts to break the impasse between the US and Iran over peace talks stalled.
Wall Street ended higher yesterday after US president Donald Trump extended a ceasefire with Iran. The S&P 500 and tech-heavy Nasdaq ended up 1.1% and 1.6% respectively to post record highs. The Dow was up 0.7%.
Oil rallied for a fourth straight day after prospects for a quick resumption of peace talks between Washington and Tehran dimmed with the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil trade, remaining blocked. Brent crude rose to trade above the 100 dollars a barrel mark.
On the stocks front, shares in Tesla fell 2.9% after the electric car maker said its free cash flow would remain negative this year due to 25 billion dollars in planned capital spending while IBM shares slumped 7.6% after issuing disappointing guidance. Lululemon shares dipped 5.4% after the athletic apparel manufacturer said it was picking Nike executive Heidi O'Neill as its next head.
Futures on the Dow Jones were down 326.00 points, or 0.66%, S&P 500 futures were down 31.25 points, or 0.44%, while.
