US futures higher despite escalating tension in the Gulf

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 5 mag - US futures were higher as investors tracked the latest developments in the Gulf and geared up for a flurry of economic data and earnings.

Wall Street ended lower yesterday after the United Arab Emirates reported missile and drone attacks on some of its energy facilities. The Dow fell 1.1%, the S&P 500 dropped and 0.4% while the tech-heavy Nasdaq shed 0.2%.

US president Donald Trump's announcement that Washington would 'use best efforts' to get ships not involved in the US-Iran conflict out of the Strait of Hormuz prompted Tehran to say the US had breached its ceasefire agreement.

Strikes on a UAE oil terminal and ships in the Strait of Hormuz drew widespread condemnation but Trump stopped short of saying Iran had violated the ceasefire.

On the data front, the JOLTS report will provide indications on jobs vacancies in March ahead of the key payrolls report due out later this week.

On the stocks front shares in Pfizer rose 2.3% in premarket trade after strong first-quarter earnings while Palantir shares fell 2.8% even as the company reported an 85% surge in revenue on booming US business. Shares in Pinterest meanwhile jumped more than 17% after the image-sharing company reported solid sales growth and unveiled bullish guidance.

Futures on the Dow Jones were up 131.00 points, or 0.27%, S&P 500 futures were up 26.25 points, or 0.36%, while futures on.

the Nasdaq were up 159.50 points, or 0.57%.
