US futures higher as Israel-Lebanon deal lifts mood
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 17 apr - US futures were higher as a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon raised hopes for a broader peace deal between the US and Iran.
Wall Street ended higher yesterday after US president Donald Trump said the leaders of Israel and Lebanon had agreed a ceasefire. The S&P 500 and tech-heavy Nasdaq hit record highs, closing up 0.3% and 0.4%, respectively, while the Dow added 0.2%.
In comments yesterday, Trump said 'the war in Iran is going along swimmingly,' adding 'it should be ending pretty soon.' He said Tehran had agreed to hand over the enriched uranium buried under three of its nuclear sites, one of Washington's key demands for a deal.
A second round of talks between US and Iranian officials could take place 'probably, maybe, next weekend,' Trump said.
Oil prices were lower with the Brent contract down more than 3% at around 96 dollars per barrel.
On the stocks front, shares in Netflix were down 10.6% in premarket trade after the streaming giant streamer issued underwhelming guidance and said chairman and co-founder Reed Hastings would be stepping down from the board.
Futures on the Dow Jones were up 206.00 points, or 0.42%, S&P 500 futures were up 18.75 points, or 0.26%, while futures on.
the Nasdaq were up 58.00 points, or 0.22%.
