US futures higher as Intel gains lift tech sector
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 24 apr - US futures were higher buoyed by technology gains as investors weighed developments in the Gulf including president Donald Trump's announcement of an extension to the Lebanon-Israel ceasefire.
Wall Street ended lower yesterday amid dimming prospects for a quick resumption of peace talks between Washington and Tehran. The Dow and the S&P 500 both lost 0.4% while the tech-heavy Nasdaq shed 0.9%.
Despite news of the extension of the Lebanon-Israel ceasefire, concern over the impasse between the US and Iran over peace talks and a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz continues to dampen sentiment.
Trump said yesterday he had ordered the US Navy to 'shoot and kill any boat' laying mines in the strait, the narrow waterway that handled roughly a fifth of global energy flows before the conflict.
On the stocks front, shares in Intel jumped 29% in premarket trade after the chip maker reported higher sales and lifted its guidance on CPU demand. Yesterday, shares in peer Texas Instruments rose sharply after a big earnings beat.
Futures on the Dow Jones were up 91.00 points, or 0.18%, S&P 500 futures were up 42.50 points, or 0.59%, while futures on.
the Nasdaq were up 412.25 points, or 1.53%.
