US futures higher amid deluge of earnings as Tesla pops

Nasdaq futures up 115.50 points (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - New York, 24 Apr - US futures were higher boosted by tech stocks ahead of another deluge of earnings as the market cheered Tesla's pledge to make cheaper cars.

Wall Street ended higher yesterday for a second straight session, lifted by gains in the technology sector. The Dow With geopolitical tension easing, investors are focusing on corporate America to see how businesses are responding to fallout from high interest rates.

Electric vehicle maker Tesla followed up recent negative newsflow on falling deliveries and further price cuts to tackle competition with a set of disappointing first quarter results that missed expectations. But the group announced plans to roll out new more affordable models next year.

"We have updated our future vehicle line-up to accelerate the launch of new models ahead of our previously communicated start of production in the second half of 2025," it said.

Tesla shares were up 12.5% premarket.

Boeing and AT&T are among companies reporting results ahead of the opening bell today while Meta is due to provide its update after the close. Microsoft and Alphabet are scheduled to report tomorrow.

On the data front, durable goods orders for March will shed more light on the real economy but investors are already casting forward to first-quarter GDP and the Fed's preferred inflation gauge, the PCE price index, both out later this week.

Futures on the Dow Jones were unchanged, S&P 500 futures were up 12.00 points, or 0.23%, while futures on the Nasdaq were 115.50 points, or 0.66%, higher.
