US futures higher after report Trump seeking to end war

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 31 mar - US futures were higher after a newspaper reported president Donald Trump is ready to end the war in Iran without a full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Wall Street ended mainly lower yesterday as the tech sector came under pressure. The S&P 500 fell 0.4%, the Nasdaq shed 0.7% while the Dow eked out a 0.1% rise.

Oil prices resumed their ascent following a media report that Trump had told aides he was willing to call a stop to the war with Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil trade, remained largely shut.

In other comments suggesting hostilities might be near an end, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that Iran had been 'essentially decimated".

"The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!" he said.

But signals nonetheless remain mixed. Trump earlier made threats against Iranian energy infrastructure while overnight a Kuwaiti oil tanker anchored off Dubai was hit by a drone.

On the stocks front, shares in McCormick rose nearly 2% in premarket trade after a report Unilever was in advanced talks with the spice maker to create a 60 billion dollar food giant.

Futures on the Dow Jones were up 464.00 points, or 1.02%, S&P 500 futures were up 61.75 points, or 0.97%, while futures on.

the Nasdaq were up 206.50 points, or 0.89%.
