UK shares end slightly lower after downbeat Wall St start

Reckitt Benckiser higher (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - London, 24 Apr - UK shares closed slightly lower, after touching a new high earlier in the session, after a negative start to the day on Wall Street and as investors continued to digest earnings.

Among individual stocks, Lloyds rose 0.86% at 51.78 pence after the lender posted a 28% first quarter decline in earnings and kept full year guidance unchanged.

Retailers however weighed despite upbeat results from Primark owner Associated British Foods. ABF fell 1.06% at 2,702.00 pence while peers Ocado and JD Sports fell 3.49% at 364.60 pence and 3.05% at 119.15 pence, respectively.

Reckitt Benckiser added 2.92% at 4,374.00 pence after the consumer goods company reported stronger than expected revenue.

The London FTSE 100 closed down 0.06% at 8,040.38 points.
