UK shares end lower on Middle East uncertainty

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 1 giu - Shares in London closed lower after Iran's state-owned Tasnim news agency said that Tehran has suspended indirect negotiations with the US until Israeli attacks in Lebanon and Gaza are halted.

Earlier, US president Donald Trump had suggested on social media that a deal with Iran would eventually be reached.

"Iran really wants to make a deal, and it will be a good one for the U.S.A. and those that are with us," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. "Just sit back and relax, it will all work out well in the end," he said.

Oil stocks were mostly higher with BP and Shell adding 2.70% at 535.90 pence and 2.50% at 3,196.00 pence, respectively.

Among individual stocks, EasyJet shares jumped 10.03% to 432437.90,93 pence after the alternative investment firm Castlelake said Friday it was in the early stages of considering a possible offer for the UK low cost air carrier.

Easyjet said it has neither held discussions with Castlelake nor had it received any approach or proposal from the investment firm.

The London FTSE 100 closed down 0.68% at 10,338.95 points.
