UK shares end lower on Iran uncertainty, ahead of central banks
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 29 apr - Shares in London closed broadly lower as markets digested corporate earnings and the latest developments from Iran while awaiting central bank policy decisions.
The Federal Reserve scheduled to announce its monetary policy decision later today, followed by the Bank of England and the European Central Bank tomorrow. All three central banks are expected to keep rates unchanged amid uncertainty from the conflict in the Middle East, following reports that US president Donald Trump has directed that preparations be made for an extended blockade of Iran.
Among individual stocks, AstraZeneca lost 1.50% at 13,692.00 pence despite the company topping first quarter expectations.
DCC meanwhile jumped 9.29% at 5,880.00 pence after confirming KKR has advanced an all-cash offer.
The London FTSE 100 closed down 1.20% at 10,208.87 points.
