UK shares end higher on data, Iran ceasefire hopes

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 25 mar - Shares in London closed higher amid heightened prospects of a ceasefire in the Middle East and as investors digested fresh inflation data.

Media reports said the US has sent Iran a 15-point plan for ending the war which includes dismantling Tehran's nuclear capability and fully opening the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has in return issued its demands which include the closure of all American bases in the Gulf and reparations for damages.

A report today by Iranian state media said Iran would not accept a ceasefire offer from the US.

The posturing comes amid reports mediators are stepping up efforts for a US-Iran meeting by Thursday.

Meanwhile, according to the Office for National Statistics,, the UK's Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 3.0% in the 12 months to February, unchanged from the 12 months to January.

On a monthly basis, CPI rose by 0.4% in February. Core CPI, excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, rose by 3.2% in the 12 months to February, up from 3.1% in the 12 months to January.

The London FTSE 100 closed up 1.42% at 10,106.84 points.
