UK shares end higher despite Middle East, political turmoil
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 13 mag - Shares in London closed higher despite continuing tensions in the Middle East and as the political situation in the UK remained uncertain amid mounting pressure for prime minister Keir Starmer to resign.
Investors also eyed US president Donald Trump's two-day visit to Chins.
Meanwhile US inflation data came in hotter-than-expected raising concerns that renewed inflationary pressure will prompt the Federal Reserve to put back interest rate cuts or even possibly consider a rate hike.
Miners were mostly higher.
Anglo American added 4.54% at 4,075.00 pence, Antofagasta gained 8.73% at 4,299.00 pence and Fresnillo rose 3.96% at 3,784.00 pence.
While among individual stocks, Intertek gained 5.28% at 5,580.00 pence a day after its board accepted EQT's latest offer.
The London FTSE 100 closed up 0.35% at 10.301.36 points.
