UK shares end flat to higher boosted by earnings, miners
Prudential rises (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - London, 29 Apr - UK shares closed flat to higher boosted by earnings and miners amid reports that BHP was considering raising its bid for peer Anglo American.
Anglo American added 4.05% at 2,750.00 pence while peer Antofagasta closed 1.20% higher at 2,282.00 pence.
Investors remained on the sidelines as they awaited the Federal Reserve's two-day monetary policy meeting starting tomorrow following another hotter-than-expected US inflation reading on Friday.
The US central bank is expected to keep rates on hold on Wednesday, but investors will closely monitor chairman Jerome Powell's press conference for fresh clues on the Fed's policy path.
Among individual stocks, Prudential rose 2.43% at 741.40 pence following a positive report from Hong Kong rival AIA.
The London FTSE 100 closed up 0.09% at 8,147.03 points.
