T-Mobile, Verizon reportedly in talks to carve up US Cellular

Separate transactions, T-Mobile deal worth 2 bln usd - WSJ (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - New York, 10 May - T-Mobile US and Verizon Communications are in talks to carve up US Cellular, one of the country's last major regional wireless carriers, in separate transactions that would give both buyers access to valuable airwaves, the Wall Street Journal said, citing people familiar with the matter.

T-Mobile is closing in on a deal to buy a chunk of the regional carrier for more than 2 billion dollars, taking over some operations and wireless spectrum licenses, the people said.

The T-Mobile deal could be reached as soon as later this month while discussions with Verizon on a separate transaction are expected to take longer or might not result in an agreement, the people said, according to the WSJ.
