Stellantis reportedly mulls sale or sharing of 4 European factories

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 23 apr - The auto maker Stellantis has identified four European factories it may sell or share to tackle overcapacity and has started talks with potential buyers or partners, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the situation who asked not to be identified.

These people told Bloomberg that no decision has been made yet on specific plants and the talk could still evolve, while there is no certainty of a deal at any site. At the same time, Bloomberg said that Stellantis has told the French and Italian governments its surplus manufacturing capacity in Europe amounts to four plants, including its Rennes facility in France, Cassino in central Italy and Madrid.

Bloomberg reported that representatives from China's Dongfeng Motor Corp. toured the Rennes and Madrid factories earlier this month, along with some production sites in Italy and Germany. The news agency noted that Dongfeng's visit comes as Stellantis and Dongfeng discuss reviving a partnership that could include joint production of cars in Europe and China.

Bloomberg has previously reported that other Chinese manufacturers are interested in the Stellantis plants and the car maker could reach deals with multiple players.

Stellantis told Bloomberg only that it holds discussions with a range of industry players on various topics as part of its.

normal course of business.
