Starbucks needs focus on US stores for rebound - former CEO
Mobile ordering and payment platform needs reinventing (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - New York, 06 May - Starbucks needs to focus on improving its stores across the US to help it recover from its "fall from grace", former Starbucks' CEO Howard Schultz said.
"I have emphasized that the company's fix needs to begin at home... The stores require a maniacal focus on the customer experience, through the eyes of a merchant. The answer does not lie in data, but in the stores," Schultz said in a letter that was posted to LinkedIn.
Schultz, who stepped down as CEO just over a year ago, helped turn Starbucks from a small chain into a coffee giant.
Senior Starbucks leaders-including board members-needed to spend more time with those who wore the green apron, Schultz said in the letter, warning there was no quick fix.
"One of their first actions should be to reinvent the mobile ordering and payment platform-which Starbucks pioneered-to once again make it the uplifting experience it was designed to be." On Tuesday, Starbucks cut its full-year forecast as a fall in same-store sales led the company to miss Wall Street's estimates for quarterly earnings and revenue.
