Shanghai shares close lower as Trump-Xi summit continues
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 14 mag - Chinese share prices closed lower, retreating from recent highs as investors monitored the summit between US president Donald Trump and Chinese president Xi Jinping in Beijing. While early optimism focused on potential trade breakthroughs and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the market turned lower as talks moved toward more sensitive issues including Taiwan, tariffs and export controls.
Losses were led by the tech and semiconductor sectors, which weighed on the index despite a strengthening yuan.
The Shanghai Composite index fell 1.52% to close at 4,177.92.
