Shanghai shares close higher on Middle East optimism

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 7 mag - Chinese share prices closed higher amid growing hope for a US-Iran peace deal.

Market sentiment was boosted by the prospect of a memorandum to end hostilities and the subsequent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Further support came from the anticipation of next week's summit between US president Donald Trump and Chinese president Xi Jinping, which helped offset concerns regarding the US administration's firm stance on Iranian compliance.

Gains were led by insurance and mining stocks.

The Shanghai Composite index rose 0.48% to close at 4,180.09.
