Rio Tinto sees 8 mln ton hit from Feb, March tropical cyclones in Australia

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 30 mar - Miner Rio Tinto said that recent weather events in Western Australia, including tropical cyclone Narelle in late March and tropical cyclone Mitchell in February are expected to hava an around 8 million ton impact on iron ore shipments.

The company said it has identified a pathway to recover around half of these losses. Pilbara iron ore shipment guidance for 2026 remains unchanged at 323-338 million tonnes.

Rio Tinto said that iron ore port operations have resumed after tropical cyclone Narelle passed over Western Australia's Pilbara region. Port closures at Rio Tinto's four Pilbara iron ore port terminals commenced on March 24. Ship loading at East Intercourse Island, Parker Point and Cape Lambert B recommenced on March 28.

Damage to Cape Lambert A is currently being repaired.

Shipping at that facility is expected to recommence in the.
