Nvidia's chief executive Jensen Huang discussed the plan with Shanghai's mayor Gong Zheng when they met in the Chinese city last month, FT said.

The R&D centre would address Chinese demand as well as solutions to meet US export restrictions. Core design and production would remain overseas, the FT said.
