Japanese shares close sharply lower, halt 3-day rally

Tokyo Nikkei 225 down 2.16% at 37,628 points (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Tokyo , 25 Apr - Japanese shares closed sharply lower amid mixed Asian markets, halting a three-day rebound and leading the losses amid mixed Asian markets.

The Nikkei index closed down 2.16% at 37,628 points.

In Tokyo stock market dealings technology shares were among the biggest decliners, tracking their US peers lower following disappointing earnings forecasts from Facebook parent Meta Platforms.

Investors monitored the Bank of Japan's two-day meeting that started today, with a rate decision due tomorrow.

The central bank meets for the first time after a historic interest rate hike in March.

The yen hovered fell past 155 per dollar for the first time since 1990, ramping up expectations of an intervention from Tokyo.
