Japan shares close lower on tech selloff and Middle East tensions
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 10 giu - Japanese shares closed lower, as investor sentiment soured following a tech led retreat on Wall Street and heightening geopolitical instability in the Middle East after the US launched strikes against Iran.
Market anxiety also grew as domestic data showed wholesale inflation hit a three year high of 6.3% in May, beating expectations. With import costs jumping 25.5%, investors now expect the Bank of Japan to hike interest rates at its June 15 and 16 meeting.
Losses were led by chipmakers and AI stocks, with the Nikkei.
225 dropping 1.89% to close at 64,179.27 points.
