Japan shares close higher as Greenland deal boosts tech stocks

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 22 gen - Japan shares closed sharply higher, supported by a strong performance in the high-tech sector.

Sentiment was boosted by a wave of global optimism sparked by reports of a potential agreement between the US and the EU over Greenland, which eased fears of a new trade war.

On the data front, Japan's trade surplus narrowed to 105.693 billion yen in December, down from 120.298 billion yen a year earlier. While exports grew by 5.1%, imports rose by 5.3% during the month.

The Nikkei 225 jumped 1.73% to close at 53,688.89 points.
