Despite a ceasefire deadline extension from US president Donald Trump, market sentiment was dampened by surging oil prices and a weaker rupee.
Losses were led by IT, financial, and banking stocks.
The BSE Sensex dropped 0.95% to finish at 78,516.49 points.
while the NSE Nifty fell 0.81% to reach 24,378.10 points.
