(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 5 mag - Hong Kong share prices closed lower, as investor sentiment soured following a sharp escalation in geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran.

The market retreated as hopes for diplomatic progress between Washington and Tehran faded, following reports of new strikes on maritime targets and port facilities near the Strait of Hormuz.

Losses were led by the tech, financial and consumer stocks.

The Hang Seng index fell 0.76% to close at 25,898.61 points.
