Sentiment was pressured by fears that rising energy costs and supply disruptions in the Gulf could trigger global stagflation, while tighter regulatory scrutiny from Beijing over offshore listings also weighed on the market.
Losses were seen across most sectors, particularly in property, financials, and tech.
The Hang Seng index tumbled 2.02% to close at 25,500.58.
