(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 2 apr - The Global Combat Air Programme agency, the agency that manages the joint Italy, Japan and UK program to deliver a next-generation combat aircraft, said it has placed its first international contract.

The 686 million pound contract was awarded to Edgewing, the international joint venture set up in 2022 between Italian defence and aerospace company Leonardo, the UK's BAE Systems and Japan Aircraft Industrial Enhancement.

According to a statement from GCAP and Edgewing, the 686 million pound contract "invests in key design and engineering activities and enables the trilateral partnership to build momentum and accelerate pace of delivery" of the combat.
