European shares open mostly higher; Milan slips
FTSE 100 up 1.09%; DAX up 0.26%; CAC 40 up 0.01% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milan, 22 Apr - European shares opened mostly higher after Friday's mixed session and gains in Asia overnight. The Stoxx 600 index was up 0.40%.
Global sentiment improved as Middle East concerns eased after Iran downplayed the impact of the attacks attacks form Israel and said it has no plan for immediate retaliation.
Caution however prevailed on lingering concerns over higher-for-longer US interest rates also following a slew of hawkish comments from Federal Reserve officials.
Investors continued to monitor fresh earnings reports from European companies.
The Milan FTSE MIB index bucked the trend and slipped as eight Milan-listed blue chip companies went ex-dividend.
In European stock market dealings most sectors were higher, with retailers leading the gains while miners bucked the trend and slipped.
At 0745 GMT, the FTSE 100 was up 1.09% at 7,981 points, while the Frankfurt DAX was up 0.26% at 17,789 points. The Paris CAC 40 was up 0.01% at 8,023 points, while in Milan the FTSE MIB was down 1.39% at 33,452 points and in Madrid the IBEX 35 was up 0.63% at 10,799 points.
US stock futures pointed to a moderately higher open as the US markets steadied after a steep selloff for tech companies.
