European shares open mostly higher ahead of ECB rate decision

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 11 giu - European share prices opened mostly higher, as investors prepare for the European Central Bank's governing council meeting where policymakers are widely expected to raise interest rates by 25 basis points.

While the ECB's verdict is expected, eyes are also turning toward the US Federal Reserve, with the FOMC set to meet on June 17-18. Data released yesterday confirmed that US inflation for May rose to 4.2%, figure in line with analyst expectations, but which highlights the ongoing pressure on global prices.

Market sentiment remains cautious due to ongoing geopolitical tensions, following further overnight exchanges between the US and Iran. However, these developments are not expected to derail current diplomatic efforts, with US secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth characterizing the recent raids as an "act of coercive diplomacy" intended to break the stalemate in negotiations.

At 0712 GMT, London's FTSE 100 was up 0.19% at 10,274.15 points, while in Frankfurt the DAX was 0.08% lower at 24,200.00 points and in Paris the CAC 40 added 0.11% to 8,170.87 points. Milan's FTSE MIB rose 0.48% at 50,267.50 points, while in Madrid the IBEX 35 was 0.50% higher at.
