Europe shares end strongly as London hits new record -2-

Tech, retail sectors jump; Associated British Foods jumps (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - 23 Apr - In European stock market dealings most sectors were higher, with technology shares leading the gains on expectations of strong earnings results from US tech companies, while miners bucked the trend and slipped for a second day. Retailers were also among the biggest gainers. Shares of Associated British Foods soared 9% to a one-year-high after it raised its outlook and interim dividend as inflationary pressures on its food brands eased and sales at high street retailer Primark improved.

Swiss drugmaker Novartis rose 2.6% after it raised its full-year guidance as it reported better-than-expected first quarter results.

In London JD Sports Fashion rose 3.8% following its proposed 1.11 billion dollar takeover of US retailer Hibbett.
