
Europe shares end lower on Fed uncertainty, inflation fears
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 13 gen - European shares closed lower as investors grew wary of potential shifts in US Federal Reserve policy following the release Friday of stronger-than-expected labor market data. Concerns over upcoming inflation figures, which could guide the Fed's next monetary policy moves, also weighed on sentiment.
The market is also keeping a close eye on the upcoming inauguration of US president-elect Donald Trump.
On the data front, the household saving rate in the eurozone fell to 15.3% in the third quarter of 2024 from 15.6% the previous quarter, as consumption increased by 1.1%, outpacing the 0.7% growth in gross disposable income, according to data from statistical office Eurostat. The household investment rate also edged down to 9.1% from 9.2%, driven by a 0.2% decline in gross fixed capital formation despite an increase in gross disposable income.
The London FTSE 100 closed down 0.29% at 8,224.19 points, the Frankfurt DAX lost 0.43% at 20,135.26 points, the Paris CAC 40 fell 0.30% at 7,408.64 points, while in Milan the FTSE MIB dipped 0.83% at 34,799.27 points, and in Madrid the IBEX 35.
