Europe shares close mixed as Iran-Israel jitters ease -2-

Retailers slip; Mondi surges (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - London, 19 Apr - In European stock market dealings most sectors were lower, with retailers among the biggest decliners after UK retail sales growth stalled in March, coming in flat on the previous month, data from the UK's Office for National Statistics showed.

French beauty and cosmetics company L'Oreal closed up 5% after it reported a strong rise in quarterly sales, driven by a surge in dermatological beauty sales.

The company posted first-quarter sales of 11.24 billion euros, up 8.3% on a reported basis. On a like-for-like basis, sales rose 9.4%. Adjusted like-for-like growth came in at 8.1%.

In London, Mondi was the day's star rising 9% after pulling out of a bidding war for DS Smith which fell almost 10%.
