Corning Q1 earnings jump on fiber, solar performance

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 28 apr - Corning said its net income in the first quarter was 371 million dollars, or 0.43 dollars per share, compared to 157 million, or 0.18 per share, in the same period a year ago.

On an adjusted basis, earnings in the period rose 30% to 0.70 dollars per share. Analysts expected 0.69 dollars per share.

Net sales in the three months were 4.144 billion dollars from 3.452 billion a year earlier. Core sales rose 18% to 4.345 billion dollars.

Results in the period were boosted by strong demand for optical fiber products used in AI data centers and continued growth in its new solar business.

The New York-based company said in the second quarter it expected core sales to grow 14% to around 4.6 billion dollars with adjusted earnings of 0.73-0.77 dollars per share.

Analysts were projecting core sales of 4.65 billion dollars.
