Chinese shares close higher on Middle East hopes
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 6 mag - Chinese share prices closed higher, following signs of diplomatic progress in the Middle East after US president Donald Trump indicated there had been progress towards a peace agreement in Iran.
The market rally was further driven by strong momentum in technology shares, which tracked positive earnings from global chipmakers, and a surge in buying activity as investors returned from an extended holiday break.
On the data front, private survey results showed that China's composite purchasing manager index rose to 53.1 in April, with the services sector expanding to 52.6 from 52.1 in March, reflecting solid domestic demand and business confidence.
Stock market gains were led by the tech sector.
The Shanghai Composite index rose 1.17% to close at 4,160.17.
