Asian shares close little changed ahead of Fed minutes

Tokyo Nikkei 225 down 0.85%, S&P ASX 200 down 0.05% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Tokyo , 22 May - Asian shares closed little changed after moderate gains on Wall Street overnight, with the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite indexes eking out record highs.

Caution prevailed as investors awaited minutes of the Federal Reserve's latest policy meeting later today for further clues on possible interest rate cuts this year, after Fed officials maintained a cautious view on a recent easing of inflation.

In Asian stock market dealings technology shares were skittish ahead of the release of key earnings from US major Nvidia Corporation due today after the US market close.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.04%, hovering near two-year highs after a four-week rally.

The Nikkei index closed down 0.85% at 38,617 points, in Sydney the S&P ASX 200 closed down 0.05% at 7,848 points, while in Seoul the KOSPI closed down 0.03% at 2,723 points.

The Shanghai Composite index was down 0.04% at 3,156 points and the Hong Kong Hang Seng index was up 0.13% at 19,245 points. In Mumbai the Sensex index was up 0.17% at 74,080 points.
