US mortgage applications fell 10.5% in latest week
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 25 mar - Mortgage applications in the US fell 10.5% on a seasonally adjusted basis from one week earlier, according to data from the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) for the week ending March 20.
The Refinance Index decreased 15% from a week ago, and was 52% higher than the same week a year ago.
The seasonally adjusted Purchase Index decreased 5% from a week ago while the unadjusted Purchase Index fell 5%.
The average contract interest rate for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages with conforming loan balances rose to 6.43% from 6.30%.
"The threat of higher-for-longer oil prices continued to keep Treasury yields elevated, and mortgage rates finished last week higher," said Joel Kan, MBA's vice president and deputy.
