Swiss March watch exports 2.112 bln francs, down 1.0% yr/yr
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 21 apr - The value of Swiss watch exports in March amounted to 2.112 billion francs, down by 1.0% compared to the year earlier, according to data from the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry (FH).
That brought the value of Swiss watch exports in the first quarter to about 6.2 billion francs, up by 1.4% compared to the first quarter of 2024.
Swiss watches with an export price of 200-500 francs saw 15.4% growth in March due to a favorable base effect, but all other segments saw a slight decrease, amounting to 1.0% on average.
Exports to the US fell by 1.6%. While exports to France jumped by 72.4% in March, FH noted that since last December the data from France has not reflected actual market growth but rather re-exports to other destinations. Exports increased to the UK (up 3.2%), China (up 4.2%) and Singapore (up 4.9%), while exports to Hong Kong were broadly steady with a 0.5% rise. Significant declines were instead seen in exports to Japan (down 12.6%) and Germany (down 8.5%).
According to FH, conflict in the Middle East has not yet affected watch exports to the United Arab Emirates, which.
rose by 0.7%, while exports to Saudi Arabia dropped by 16.8%.
