Spain preliminary Q1 GDP up 0.7% qtr/qtr, up 2.4% yr/yr

Domestic demand contributes 2.2 pct pts to growth (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Madrid, 30 Apr - In the first quarter, Spain's gross domestic product rose 0.7% from the previous three months in volume terms and rose 2.4% year on year, accelerating from the 2.1% increase seen in the fourth quarter, according to preliminary data released by the national statistical office Ine.

Domestic demand contributed 2.2 percentage points to growth while external demand contributed 0.2 points.

Industrial activity rose 2.3% year on year in the quarter with manufacturing up 3.3%. Construction activity increased 3.6%, services 2.6%, and the primary sector 0.4%.

The hours worked in the quarter grew 1.3% year on year after 2.3% in the previous quarter while employment rose 3.4% after a 3.9% increase in the fourth quarter.
