Italy April trade surplus 4.293 bln eur vs 2.448 bln yr earlier

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 15 giu - Italy's trade surplus widened to 4.293 billion euros in April 2026 from 2.448 billion the year earlier, according to data from statistics institute Istat.

The deficit on trade in energy widened to 5.169 billion euros from 4.219 billion the year earlier while the surplus on non-energy goods also grew, to 9.462 billion from 6.667 billion.

Compared to the month earlier, Italian exports in April 2026 fell by 2.2% while imports were 0.6% lower. The monthly decline in Italian exports reflected a fall of 2.1% in exports to Italy's fellow European Union states and a 2.4% drop in exports to non-EU countries.

Compared to the year earlier, Italian exports in April 2026 rose by 8.8% in value and by 3.5% in volumes. In monetary terms, the annual growth was higher for non-EU markets (up 12.0%) compared to EU markets (up 5.9%). Imports rose by 5.5% year on year in value terms, reflecting a 5.2% increase in imports from EU markets and a 5.9% rise in imports from other.
