German preliminary March CPI up 1.1% mth/mth, up 2.7% yr/yr

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 30 mar - In March, German consumer prices rose 1.1% on the previous month and grew 2.7% year on year, according to preliminary data released by the statistics office Destatis.

The annual inflation rate excluding food and energy, often referred to as core inflation, is expected to stand at 2.5% in March, it added. Energy prices are expected to be up 7.2% compared to the same month of the previous year, posting their first increase since December 2023.

Harmonised consumer prices, calculated for European Union purposes, rose by 1.2% compared to the previous month and grew 2.8% year on year, according to the provisional print.

The final readings will be released on April 10.
