(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milano, 12 giu - In May, German consumer prices fell 0.2% on the previous month and rose 2.6% year on year, according to the statistics office Destatis, confirming its preliminary reading.

Harmonised for European Union purposes, prices fell 0.1% month on month and rose 2.7% year on year, also in line with the provisional reading.

"The inflation rate in May 2026 was somewhat lower than in the previous months. Energy prices remained at a high level as a result of the Iran war, although the reduction in the tax on motor fuels, which has applied since the start of May, is likely to have had a dampening effect on the rise in.

prices", said Ruth Brand, president of Destatis.
