French April manufacturing PMI 45.3 vs 46.2 in March

15th monthly deterioration (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - London, 02 May - In April, France's purchasing managers' index for the manufacturing sector dropped to 45.3 from 46.2 in March, signalling a fifteenth monthly deterioration in operating conditions across France's manufacturing sector, according to data released by S&P Global and Hamburg Commercial Bank.

A reading above 50 signals expanding sector activity and a reading below 50 a contraction.

"French manufacturing output stayed subdued in April. The manufacturing sector continues to thwart the overall economy's recovery, but this should only be temporarily. The Output Index dropped, reflecting a faster demand deterioration. Nevertheless, we expect a recovery in the manufacturing sector in the third quarter of this year, " said Norman Liebke, economist at Hamburg Commercial Bank.
