Up 20.0% yr/yr (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Ottawa, 18 Apr - In February, the number of Canadians receiving regular Employment Insurance (EI) benefits was virtually unchanged month on month and stood at 471,000, according to Statistics Canada.

Year on year, total number of regular EI beneficiaries increased 20.0%.

Data from the Labour Force Survey (LFS) show that the unemployment rate remained at 5.8% for three of the four months leading up to February 2024. This stability follows an upward trend from April to November 2023, when the unemployment rate increased from 5.1% to 5.8%, Statistics Canada added.
