ETF Day
ETF is the acronym for Exchanged Traded Funds, a particular type of mutual investment fund or Sicav whose main feature is that it's traded on the official exchange of Borsa Italiana like a share. ETFs are characterised by a totally passive management who aims to track a reference index "benchmark" (equity, fixed income, liquidity or commodities) and are subject to a low total annual commission (TER) without “entry”, “exit” or “performance” fees.
Thanks to the great success that ETFs and ETCs gained in Italy, this year the TOL Expo 2009, in partnership with ETF Consulting, has organized seminars and panels focused on them.
The whole morning of Thursday 29th will be dedicated to Issuer's presentations, highlighting the main characteristics of these financial instruments and the best use of them, with the moderation of an expert of ETFs and ETCs.
At the moment 301 ETFs are listed on the ETFplus market of Borsa Italiana. They allow to get exposure to a wide range of asset classes, e.g. equity, fixed income, liquidity or commodities. Some ETFs (structured) allow investors to achieve more complex investment strategies such as "short" or "leverage", short ETFs are aimed at generating returns inversely related to the performance of the reference market, while leveraged ETFs provide investors the way to participate in a more than proportional manner in the performance of an index.
In the ETFplus market are also listed 67 ETCs (Exchanged Traded Commodities), financial instruments that track single commodities or commodity futures, or baskets of them.
