Today, Borsa Italiana will host the “Markets and innovation in Agrifood” event: a day dedicated to exploration and debated around growth and innovation opportunities for companies operating in the Food and Beverage industry.

The event will be opened by Raffaele Jerusalmi, CEO of Borsa Italiana, with guest speakers Maurizio Martina, Italian Minister of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, and Giuseppe Sala, Commissioner of the Italian Government for Expo Milan 2015.

Some of the key players of the industry will take part in the event: ELITE companies Granarolo, Fratelli Damiano, Rigoni di Asiago and Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi; Ferrarini, which issued a mini-bond listed on ExtraMOT PRO; the listed company La Doria and private company Barilla Group. Representatives of agricultural producers and intermediaries will also participate: the North East Consortium of Agricolture, the French InVivo Group and Casillo Group.

The companies will talk about the individual characteristics of their business, focusing on the innovative financial instruments they use to face the competitive challenges of their industry.

The debate will continue with a talk by Paolo Sckokai, Professor of Agrarian Economy at Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. The focus will then move to AGREX, the segment of the London Stock Exchange Group derivatives market dedicated to durum wheat. Helyette Geman, Professor of Finance at Birkbeck, University of London and member of the Board of the UBS-Bloomberg Commodity Index, and Nicolas Bertrand, Head of Equity and Derivatives Market at London Stock Exchange Group will also deliver speeches at the event.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Fondo Strategico Italiano S.p.a. and Istituto Sviluppo Agroalimentare S.p.A. regarding the cooperation on the selection of investment opportunities will be presented at the event.

Raffaele Jerusalmi, CEO of Borsa Italiana, declared:

“To market the occasion of the Expo Milan 2015 Borsa Italiana has organised an event dedicated to the excellence of our country: Food and Beverage. Despite the fact that this sector has historically been underrepresented on the public markets, the recent floats of Italian Wine Brands and Massimo Zanetti Beverage Group and the expected IPO of Masi Agricola demonstrate a clear, and hopefully continued reverse of that trend. The companies are beginning to exploit the advantaged of accessing the capital market, as the participation of 13 companies from this sector in the ELITE programme clearly demonstrates”.

The event will be on Twitter with hashtag #FoodFinance.
