Borsa Italiana today hosts the 2014 STAR Conference at London Stock Exchange in London. Over the course of two days, companies belonging to the STAR segment will meet international investors, to present their achievements and strategies for the future.

This years’ event is characterized by a record number of meetings and participating investors. More than 600 one-to-one meetings have been organised, where company senior management will meet over 104 investors from 84 investment companies.

This is the 14th edition of the Star Conference, which takes place every year in March and October, in Milan and London respectively.

The STAR segment today comprises 67 listed companies, from 16 Italian sectors.

The total market capitalization of the segment is €22,51 billion, representing a medium market capitalization of €341 million per company.

The average free float of a company on the STAR segment is 41%, which is higher than the 35% minimum free float required to access the segment.

The percentage of foreign shareholders invested in STAR companies is particularly worth noting: 91% of institutional investors[1] come from outside Italy (29% from North America, 20% from the UK, 1% from Asia and Oceania, 41% from the rest of Europe, including France 10%, Northern countries 16%, Germany 7%, and Switzerland 5%).

The FTSE Italia STAR index has continually outperformed the FTSE Italia All Share (an increase of 127 per cent from the beginning of 2003 until today). In the past 12 months the FTSE Italia STAR returned a positive performance of 22 per cent.

Barbara Lunghi, Head of Small & Mid Caps at Borsa Italiana said:

“STAR companies highlight Borsa Italiana’s strength in nurturing Italy’s dynamic and growing businesses, whilst maintaining a segment with the highest standards of transparency, liquidity and corporate governance. In the first half of 2014, 63 per cent of these companies saw an increase in their revenue, compared to the same period in 2013. The high demand for interviews and number of international participants at the 2014 conference further demonstrates the continuing strength of this segment.”
