Global investors attend STAR Conference

-         Record number of meetings; more than 1500

-         57 STAR companies and 38 ELITE companies attend the conference

-         175 investors from 125 different investment houses attend from around the world

On 25 and 26 March, investors from Italy and around the world, attended Borsa Italiana to meet with a wide range of STAR and ELITE companies.

The 2014 edition of the biannual conference, which takes place in Milan and London, set a number of records including the most meetings scheduled, with more than 1500 taking place over both days; an average of 44 investor meetings for each company.

Over the course of the event 57 STAR companies presented their business plans in a variety of public presentations and in one-to-one meetings. As well as this, 38 ELITE companies (http://elite.borsaitaliana.it/it) also attended the conference, receiving support from a dedicated networking and meeting area, which provided access to institutional investors and coaching from STAR companies.

The conference was also hosted in conjunction with Equity Markets Partners, who share Borsa Italiana’s commitment to supporting companies grow through access to the financial markets.

The STAR segment: Overview

The STAR segment comprises of 68 listed companies with a total market capitalization of €26.6 billion, an increase of 85 per cent on 2013 (€14.32 billion). The average market capitalization of each company was €391 million.

The conference also confirmed the importance of international investors in supporting STAR companies. 92% of institutional investors in STAR shareholder base are foreign (30% North America, 23% UK and 35% rest of Europe).[1]

The FTSE Italia STAR index has recorded +11.8% performance since the end of 2013. The index representing the STAR segment has consistently outperformed FTSE Italia All-Share: +45.8% since the end of 2012 and +127.2% since the end of 2003 (date of 24 March 2014 ).

Even in terms of liquidity 2013 has been a positive year for STAR segment, which have traded €2,7 billion shares in 2013, compared to €1,8 billion shares in 2012 and recording trades for €1 billion shares in just the first two months of 2014.

For turnover traded STAR segment reached  €9,4 billion in 2013, compared to €5,5 billion traded in 2012. In the first two months of 2014 have already been traded €3,5 billion euro.
