BORSA ITALIANA -2010 MARKET REVIEW

BORSA ITALIANA LEADERSHIP IN EUROPE FOR SHARES TURNOVER VELOCITY ON ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS (173.2%, FIGURES UPDATED AT THE END OF NOVEMBER 2010)

BORSA ITALIANA CONFIRMS ITS EUROPEAN LEADERSHIP FOR CONTRACTS TRADED ON TELEMATIC SYSTEM ON ETF PLUS AND MOT (FIGURES UPDATED AT THE END OF NOVEMBER 2010)

-          At the end of 2010, there are 332 companies listed on Borsa Italiana. In detail, 272 companies are listed on the MTA, 75 of whom belong to the STAR segment, 36 on the MTA International segment, 5 on the MIV, 11 on the AIM Italia market and 8 on MAC.

-          During 2010 IPOs were 10 : Tesmec (MTA Star), Enel Green Power (MTA), PMS (AIM Italia), Poligrafici Printing (AIM Italia), Fintel Energia Group (AIM Italia), Methorios (AIM Italia), Vita Società Editoriale (AIM Italia), First Capital (AIM Italia), Rosetti Marino (MAC), Editoriale Olimpia (MAC).  IPOs were 7 in 2009 and 6 in 2008.

-          In total, 10 new companies were admitted to trading on Borsa Italiana ( 8 in 2009 and 10 in 2008). Delistings (10) decreased in comparison with previous years (12 in 2009 and 18 in 2008)

-          On December 29 FTSE MIB STORICO reported a decrease of 7.66% with respect to the end of 2009. The maximum increase (to 18.175) was achieved on 11 January 2010, while record in decrease (to 14.317) was reached on 25 May 2010. FTSE Italia All Shares reported a decrease of 10.29% (the maximum increase to 24.232 was achieved on 8 January 2010 while the lowest record to 18. 965 was reached on 25 May 2010. FTSE Mib reported a decrease of 11.95% ( the maximum increase to 23.811, was achieved on 8 January 2010 while the lowest  record, 18.383, on 25 May 2010).

-          Within the stock market, the SME sector, in particular the STAR segment, reported a very positive performance: FTSE Italia STAR registered an annual growth of 3.24% (the annual record to 11.787 was achieved on 15 April 2010 while the lowest record to 9.954  on 25 May 2010).

-          The aggregate capitalisation of listed companies reached €429.938 billion at year end, corresponding to 27.6% of the Gross Domestic Product.

-          Share trading achieved a daily average of €2.9 billion and 243,306 contracts. A total of 62.0 million of contracts were traded for a total turnover of €746.3 billion. The highest daily traded turnover was achieved on 10 May 2010 with €7.1 billion , while 7 May saw the highest amount of contracts traded (542,772).

-          Unicredit proved to be the most  traded share both in terms of turnover, with a total of €173.7 billion and in terms of contracts with 7.4 million.

-          During the first eleven months of 2010, Borsa Italiana stands out in Europe for its shares liquidity, as showed by the record in terms of turnover velocity. It indicates the annual turnover rate of the shares, comparing the turnover of electronic trading systems and the capitalization. The Italian turnover velocity was in fact equal to 173.2%.

-          It was also confirmed the European leadership for traded contracts on electronic trading systems both on ETFplus and on MOT.

-          ETF Plus, the market where ETF and ETC are traded, continued to grow. The number of listed instruments increased from 400 of 2009 at the year end to 563. In 2010 162 ETF were listed (all-time record for the number of quotations) and 16 ETC, reaching a record number of 178 new instruments. Even Asset Under Management continue to set records. For the first time in late November, they exceeded the threshold of €17 billion, reaching €17.11 billion, while AUM of ETC crossed the barrier of the €2 billion, reaching €2.02 billion.

-          New historical records were reached in daily trading, with €306.8 million (+43.1% compared with the average of 2009) and 13.467 contracts by day (+39.0%). In total, €78.2 billion were traded and 3.4 million of contracts. During the year new all-time records of contracts and turnover traded in single session were recorded on Wednesday  28 April 2010 with 29.691 contracts for €777.5 million .

-          MOT, with 723 listed instruments (98 government bonds 355 bonds and 270 Eurobonds and ABS) scored a new historical record for the number of contracts against a total of 607 to the end of 2009 (3.8 million, +7.8% compared with 2009) equal to €227.3 billion. On 30 November 2010, it set a new all-time record for trading on Borsa Italiana stock market with 33.932 traded contracts, while on 10 May it set the record for turnover with over € 1.7 billion traded.  On ExtraMOT, the Borsa Italiana MTF dedicated to corporate bonds, were listed 200 instruments.

-          On Idem, 44.1 million standard contracts were traded (+4% vs 2009), showing a new all-time record for the second consecutive year. The daily average for standard contracts came to 173.028, while the notional turnover amounted to € 3.4 billion. The breakdown into single instruments highlights significant growth in index products, in particular those of FIB, the futures on FTSE MIB (+26% in daily average standard contracts and +33% in notional turnover vs 2009) and those of MIBO, the option on FTSE MIB (+19% in daily average standard contracts and +24% in notional turnover vs 2009). Also increased the daily average standard contracts for stock futures (+15% compared to 2009). A growth also recorded for average daily trading on Idex, the segment dedicated to electricity futures, which scored a +15% in standard contracts.

-          There was a significant growth in open interest. During the year the previous historical high has been overtaken many times, reaching the new record of 8.731.264 standard contracts on May 20 (+28% compared to the previous record).

-          During 2010, money raised by already listed or newly listed  companies amounted to €9.3 billion. There were 20 capital increase transactions raising €6.8 billion between them. The 10 companies listed by Borsa Italiana via IPOs raised €2.5 billion during the placement.

-          In 2010 there were 6 OPA, with a turnover of almost €360 million.
